Uncovering the Benefits of Transfer Maids in Singapore

Singapore is employing virtually no new foreign domestic workers (FDWs) as a consequence of the existence of travel restrictions. As a result, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has streamlined the process by allowing employers to hire transfer maids through maid agencies. However, it is crucial to be aware of any potential obstacles that may come up along the way before partnering with a Singapore transfer maid.

“Why transfer the maid?” you may be pondering. Currently, hiring a maid in Singapore can be done in a secure and low-risk way. They are not traveling from another country, which reduces the risk of disease transmission.

Furthermore, employers have the option to terminate their maid’s employment contract through an employment agency, regardless of whether the maid has secured a new position. If she is not rehired within 14 days, the designated agent will return her to her country of origin.

The benefit of collaborating with a Singapore transfer maid is that it reduces expenses for both current and former employers. In reality, former employers can save money on the return ticket of their maid, while new employers can avoid the expenses associated with bringing in a new FDW into the country. Professional courses for new maids are conducted by MOM and are included in these expenses.

Furthermore, the prerequisite for further training is reduced as a result of the fact that transfer maids have already worked in Singapore. A transfer maid would be more familiar with her surroundings, be able to communicate effectively, be aware of local dietary preferences, and have a better understanding of how to operate electronics and appliances than a new maid with no experience.

Prior to making this critical recruiting decision, you should ensure that the current employer has sent the maid for her six-monthly medical examination. Furthermore, it is essential that you secure the documented consent of your current employer for the transfer. I will send you the IPA letter, which will include information about the transfer data and the deadline for the issuance of the new Work Permit.

In order to terminate your maid’s contract and transfer her to a new employer, make certain that she has accomplished her most recent six-monthly medical examination. The transfer agreement is also confirmed by signing the declaration form in the In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter issued by the new employer or agency representative.

We hope that the aforementioned concise guide will be useful if you are considering partnering with a Singapore transfer maid in the future.
